Perhaps the World Ends Here by Joy Harjo

This poem was about anything and everything that happens at the kitchen table. From eating to gossiping, all that goes on happens when a group of people are enjoying themselves, after a long days work. In a way, its like the author is saying that this table has gone through so many different moments and will continue to do so in the future. "This table has been a house in the rain and an umbrella in the sun." The speaker is trying to say that no matter what the situation is, the table will always be used in many ways.

Ballad by Sonia Sanchez

In this poem, I thought that the speaker was explaining how herself was too old to learn about love so there was no point in thinking about it and such like that while the person she speaks of is too young to even mention the meaning of love. There was a moment where the speaker knew what love was and what it was about and she also experienced it herself, but as she got older, she lost her skill and knowledge of it. She remembered all that went with the memory of love that she experienced. The "rain", "grass" and "stone" was like the nature of love, she had memories for each and every one of those things.

Makeup on Empty Space by Anne Waldman

I actually really liked this poem, I pictured all of the color she used and applied it to what made it seem like she was painting. In every empty space, she just seemed to have add things here and there so that the space is now used up in every inch. It just seemed like she put the most random things together and next to each other, etc. She was able to stuff, jam, pack, rebuild everything and anything and put them all together. She would take colors out of everything and created an image for the empty space that was there. It was as if she had amazing abilities and was able to do anything.

Round About Midnight by Bob Kaufman

The speaker seems to live in a place where jazz music is number one with the radio in hand and a lady that is into jazz as well. The more you read, the more the speaker shows the reader that they are in a "jazz" moment where they are surrounded by the jazz melody, a girl that is the kind that loves jazz as much as the speaker does, the "piano laughter" which may also represent people all around the area playing the piano that has a jazz melody to it, while laughing at the lyrics they create, as well as the "soft blue voices" that is heard throughout the air. It seems like every night there is always a "jazz mood" in the air, around the time of 12 midnight.

Harlem By Langston Hughes

This poem seems like it is able a person who has had a dream but has deferred it....meaning they postponed or delayed it for another time in which they will have their dreams come true and be reality. So then they questioned themselves as to what would happen if the dream is deferred, though at the end when the speaker asks "Or does it explode?" it shows that the word "Deferred" not only means "To postpone, to delay" but it also means "to exempt temporarily from induction into military service." It could relate to the military coming in on the speaker and taking everything away so that the dream will not take place, but instead it will "explode."

Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy

I actually liked this poem alot. The title of it, described the girl in the poem alot, from childhood to death. When she was born, she was probably a beautiful baby and got introduced to barbie dolls, something that she didnt know she'd try and look like in the future. She definitely got made fun of after puberty and got poked fun at for her nose and her legs. She was a completely normal person until she took action and destroyed herself by having surgery on her legs and nose. I really liked this poem because it shows that this girl had to try so hard to fit in, it shows that some girls are very self-conscious of their bodys and will do anything to look like a beautiful person, hence why the title is "Barbie Doll." Any girl would kill to look like one of those plastic dolls.

Bird With Two Right Wings by lawrence Ferlinghetti

I think that this poem is about having to do with the Air Force, of course, and having to do with America training for combat, i guess, or being in the middle of the war. I am not entirely sure what was going on in the poem; I couldnt really picture what was going on because there wasnt much imagery going on. It seems as if the poem is describing the logo on captain's cap as a donkey, elephant, and donkephant. I'm not entirely sure what has happened in that part of the poem but i do know that towards the end of the poem, i pictured people sitting down in the passenger seats, listening to what is going on in the air.

"The Secret" by Denise Levertov

I thought that "The Secret" by Denise Levertov was very unique and maybe just a bit confusing to read but i guess that's part of the poem or else it wouldnt be called "the Secret." i believe that there is a hidden message in the poem that im not following because it seems like i cant figure out what is going on. I do know that it is about two girls finding a secret in a poem, but they lost the poem, therefore they lost the secret and may even forget about the secret later on so they wont be able to tell others what the secret was.

Early in the morning

After reading this poem many many times, i have come to realize that i really liked it alot. the poem reminded me of the days that i was small and of the times that my mother used to do my hair. i loved how the father would always wait for the "music of the comb" whenever he watched his wife do her hair. it shows that he really cares about her and is mezmerized by her beauty and everything that comes with it, the song, scent, imagery of her beauty as well as the touch. the husband is so used to the music that everytime she combs her hair, he notices the soft song that approaches his ears. for all the years they've been together, he's always heard it.

The One Girl at the Boys Party

I didnt really understand this poem, but im guessing that she really isnt used to being the only girl at a party. She seems to get a look from all the boys there because maybe theyre not used to a girls presence. As shes at the party, she seemed to have been doing alot of math in her head about what she should do and about whats going to happen i guess. She may be looked at differently because she is of a different sex.

The Red Wheelbarrow

This poem by William Carlos Williams was quite interesting and not to mention, very short indeed. I had an image in my head of the actual wheelbarrow on the field, either getting soaked because of the rain or being wet from a wash by the farmer, with the white chickens nearby picking at the ground for food. The poem showed how important the wheelbarrow is by just a few words..."so much depends upon...." The wheelbarrow can do so much to help with the farmland and carrying vegetables that feed people. Without this wheelbarrow, how will we get vegetables fast enough?! How would things be moved from one place to another as well? Things cant move on their own, so we would end up carrying whatever we have to carry, that means a double trip for us since we can only carry so much. And lets not forget the white chickens; even though they didnt do much, they were quite the audience.

The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop

Okay, so I'm still getting a hang of this blogging thing but it's better that i got this up late than never.

As I was reading "The Fish" by Elizabeth Bishop, I had the imagery of the fisherman and the fish he caught in my head. From what i understood, it seemed as if he was quite proud that he caught the fish that seem to have escaped from every other fishermen. The hooks on the fish's lower lip said it all. It had 5 pieces of fish-line from the previous failed catches. Bishop described the fish as old and just wasnt able to fight this battle as he did from the other 5 fishing lines. It seemed as if he gave in and just didnt care of the capture after fighting for so long and so hard. He didnt fight at all and just hung there with venerability filling up his gills. It seems that the fisherman let the fish go only because he saw that the fish had battle scars. He was very happy and victorious that he captured a fighting fish that suffered through other fishing lines but the fish was old, so I'm guessing that the fish was freed so that he can live the rest of his life where he belongs.
